To everyone who thought I was kidding in the Ryanair post, here is real, journalistic proof:

Ryanair may charge £1 for lavatory use

Ryanair is considering charging passengers £1 ($1.40) to use the lavatory on its flights, according to chief executive Michael O’Leary.

In a related policy, passengers will no longer be allowed to bring empty bottles onboard.

This story made it to American news! One of the headline stories on MSNBC.com:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29532865/

It's full of awesome puns like "chief executive Michael O'Leary... is flush with interest in the idea of mounting credit card-operated toilets." He insists: "We are serious."
