That would be embarrassing
Even though Eric’s parents asked for a Polish Christmas ornament last year, I’m just now getting around to sending it. When you are barely communicative, you learn to live without luxuries like mailing packages, understanding warning signs, or special requests at restaurants. (Our motto: whatever shows up, eat it!) I’m glad our Polish is much better now.
Our dilemma is properly filling out the customs form. Just like in the US, you have to list on the form what you’re sending. But the Polish word for ornament is bombka, quite literally, little bomb. There is no way I’m writing that. I don’t even want to imagine the panic that would cause, and I really don’t want a visit from INTERPOL.
Maybe I’ll just put pamiątka (souvenir).
