Parthemores in Poland

Another great story from our visit: Our realtor told us we would do a wire transfer for our deposit, which is fairly common in Poland. Three hours before we are ready to sign the paperwork, he informs us that his company doesn't accept wire transfers from foreign banks, we will need to get the money in cash (because of course they don't take checks.) We call our bank once they opened and they were very helpful in allowing us to go WAAAAY over our daily ATM limit (we needed about $2500). So we go to the Citibank ATM because we knew it had an "english" option. After trial and error, we determine that the machine will not let us withdraw more than 500 PLN at a time. So we have to make 10 withdrawls and are standing at this machine for a solid 20 minutes. I still don't know how the cops didn't show up. We then walk down the street with a massive wad of cash (the 5000 zloty was in 50s and 100s). But we made it unscathed, which says a lot about the security of the city. We felt safer there than when we walked around Washington DC.....
